recipe: hojicha dark + stormy

There’s something about the roasted, chestnut flavor of Hojicha that makes us want it in everything, always. So, we experimented at the OneTea x Hidden Apron Afternoon Tea Party with a fun take on the classic Dark & Stormy. It was a total hit at the event, and we wanted to share the recipe with you to make at home!

Enjoy this fun, roasted yet bright cocktail. And please, share with us if you make it again - we love to hear from you!

 INGREDIENTS (Makes 1 cocktail)

  • 1.5 oz Hojicha infused rum (We used Plantation 3-Star White Rum - recipe below)

  • 3 oz Ginger beer (we always go for Reed’s

  • 2 drop yuzu juice

  • Yuzu salt for glass rim

  • 1 wedge lime

For the Hojicha infused rum: Add 10g of Hojicha leaves to 470ml (half 1 liter bottle) of Plantation 3-Star rum in a large mason jar and stir to combine. Set aside for 2-3 hours to infuse. Strain out tea and store rum in a cool, dark place until ready to use.

For the cocktail:  For this cocktail, we used an 8 oz glass tumbler. First, salt your rum with yuzu salt. Dip the rim in a flat plate of water, and then dip in a flat plate of the salt. Add a large quantity of ice to the glass, pour in the infused rum, yuzu juice and top off with ginger beer. Garnish with lime wedge.
